How do we orient our students to a place of true freedom?
We cultivate radical imagination through a liberatory consciousness model in an effort to understand systems and institutions - how they work, and how they must change to move us towards liberation. Our learning spaces operate as a cypher - an authentic and indigenous form of education going back centuries that emphasizes a communal space of expression, affirmation, wisdom and love. We build on this pedagogy to include radical self love, communal care, and restorative justice systems that are embedded in our culture.
Project Based learning
Moxie "classrooms" house ever-changing maker spaces, which act as hubs of cutting-edge technology and specialists from the community who are grounded in skill based approaches that provide real world solutions and affect real change. Real learning is complex; we have to be willing to allow our students to value conflict, dialogue, and true problem-solving. If we fail to do this, we rob our students of the opportunity to become truly independent, critical thinkers.
global activism & citizenship
The Moxie learning experience fosters authentic participation in the transformation of our world. We provide tools of empowerment for our students and staff to not only recognize but affirm the cultural diversity of the world. We do so by building coalition with local, national, and global partners that have a personal stake in providing platforms for marginalized voices.
Diversifying the outdoors
Moxie students engage deeply with their own and each other's stories during Wilderness orientation. The Land sees us for who we truly are; it's our responsibility to cultivate these teachings. We are committed to promoting access to outdoor spaces for all of our students and educators, creating a culture where women, people of color, indigenous peoples, LGBTQIA, and other historically underrepresented communities are empowered to shape their own narratives and experiences.
